My Perfume Confession

I have a confession to make... until very recently, I must admit to being what can only be described as a perfume snob. My adamancy that Chanel Coco Mademoiselle was the only perfume for me has often put me out of pocket (even as a student I insisted on wearing it!). Now, it must be said, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle is an absolutely divine perfume - it smells irresistible, and lasts for at least 24 hours - and it really is worth the price tag. However, realistically, as a girl with a student loan to repay whilst working for a charity, is it really sensible that I insist on wearing such a scent every day? I think I can answer that question myself, and the answer is no, it is not sensible (my mother will be delighted when she reads this!).

My snobbery began to weaken at Christmas time: a member of our greater family had bought me a bottle of Kate Moss Parfum, and I was utterly surprised to learn that actually, the scent was very appealing! Before this experience, I really would never have worn a scent that was supposedly made by a celebrity (such was the perfume snob in me!), however it really did begin to change my thinking... I was slowly coming around to the idea that maybe I didn't have to wear Chanel every day.... So I began to search for a middle priced perfume that I could wear every day (once my Kate Moss Parfum was empty!). I came across the new Marc Jacobs Daisy eau so Fresh Sunshine edition and simply fell in love! The bottle is gorgeous, it smells deliciously like summer, and the price tag is reasonable. So here are my three summer scent suggestions for those who want to smell gorgeous:

CHANEL
Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum 50ml
£67

MARC JACOBS
Daisy eau so Fresh Sunshine Edition, eau de Toilette 75ml
£48

KATE MOSS
eau de Toilette Parfum
£19.95

My Chanel Coco Mademoiselle will always be top on my list of scents, whether that be in the Summer or Winter months, however now I have learnt to treasure it for special occasions, rather than wear it every day. The Marc Jacobs and Kate Moss scents really are fabulous alternatives for every day use, and I really am very happy with the compromise. I am so very glad that my snobbery has been reversed!

Are you a perfume snob? Or are you willing to step out of your perfume comfort zone?

May Wish List: Top Ten

I am going to be a typical Brit by starting this post with a comment on the weather, but HALLELUJAH the sun has finally been shining over here! This week I didn't feel a bit guilty as I indulged in my first ice cream of the summer (it was a white Magnum, and I enjoyed every bite as I sat in the sunshine for the first time in what feels like a century!). So for May's Wish List I have banished all coats and jumpers in the hope that I won't have to dig them out again until the Autumn (this will probably turn out to be naïvely optimistic, but hey, a girl can dream!). That being said, the palette of this Wish List would usually suit the darker months more, but I simply can't get enough of the monochrome that is out there at the moment. I've brightened up my choices with a few splashes of red; note in particular the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Rebelle, as this is what the makeup artist advised me to wear in my previous post. I have also included a Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Suspicious to complement the lip colour, as I am loving coordinated lips and nails. So, without further ado, here is my Top Ten for May:

1.

ZARA
combination dress
£45.99

2.

NEW BALANCE
620 navy red trainers
£59.99

3.

TOPSHOP
leather look t-shirt dress
£55

4.

RIVER ISLAND
gold toned pointed plate necklace
£10

5.

NEXT
metallic cuff sandals
£30

6.

le vernis nail colour in suspicious
£18

7.

£24

8.

WAREHOUSE
dip dye skinny jeans
£42

9.

TOPSHOP
mesh insert colour block t-shirt
£20

10.

TOPSHOP

I hope you've enjoyed my May Wish List, and that the sunshine is shining where ever you are too. Be sure to like and share my Facebook page, where I share some of my short sweet fashion loves.

The Vogue Festival 2013: festival fashion hub

As promised in yesterday's blog post, today I will share snippets of all the fun extras that Vogue Festival goers could enjoy. The talks took place in two large auditoriums at the South Bank Centre in London, but in the atrium joining the two halls together, there was what I will call, the "festival fashion hub". The fashion hub was an incredibly exciting place to be. It was the perfect opportunity for outfit inspirations, and fashion lovers could indulge in some beauty therapy, whether that was Dior smokey eyes, YSL gorgeous lip colour, or the incredibly popular Vogue braid bar. All of these beauty indulgences were totally free with any talk ticket!

Unfortunately I didn't have time to indulge in these freebies as I was busy enjoying another pop-up activity in the festival fashion hub... as I had attended Behind the Scenes of a Vogue Cover Shoot, I simply couldn't resist the chance to make my very own Vogue cover photo! Although this experience cost an extra £10, it was such a rare opportunity, and I just had to have a go! My make up was touched up by a professional Chanel make up artist, who decided that I should try Chanel Rebel on my lips (it was so bright, but I loved it!), she touched up my cheek bones, put minimal liner and shadow on my eyes, and made my eyebrows darker. I loved sitting in the make up chair being pampered - it was something I could definitely get used to! The next step was to chose some Chanel props for the shoot, and I just had to go for the sparkly Chanel jacket! The super friendly stylist also dressed me in Chanel pearls, sunglasses, and gold cuff - I couldn't believe I was wearing so much Chanel all in one go, and dread to think of how much all those accessories cost. At this point I should let you all know that I am really not comfortable having my photograph taken, and I was so nervous to have all those fashion professionals staring, so I just had to try and have fun with it (but ended up looking quite stiff and serious!). But... here is my attempt at a Vogue cover (!):

Other fun elements of the festival was the chic Vogue café and the exclusive Vogue Festival shop. I simply couldn't resist splashing some cash in the shop and came away with the Vogue Festival t-shirt, £20, which was made to look effortlessly cool by the Vogue staff,  and a collectable book called Vogue on Coco Chanel, £15.

The final, and truly novel, highlight of my Vogue Festival experience was the Fashion Journalism Panel that was put on to provide unique advice for any budding fashion journalists at the event. I was incredibly privileged to have a one-on-one chat with Sarah Harris, British Vogue Fashion Features Director. I thought I would use my time to simply ask her about her job and how she got there, and spent most of my time listening to her every word to try and gain as much advice as I could. Her journey into the industry was blessed by the fact that from an early age she knew exactly what she wanted to go into, and she had the confidence and intelligence to go for it. I told her that for a large proportion of my life, the fashion industry was one that seemed as though it was in another dreamlike world, and that in was an intangible concept to me. However I shared that recently I had realised that perhaps it wasn't so unreachable, and if I could, I would really love to have a good crack at being a fashion journalist. She could see that I had the drive, and I am confident that my writing is strong enough, and so she advised me to enter the Vogue Talent Competition. It is something that I will definitely enter, I just need to decided whether I want to do it this year or next. She also said that an incredibly important part of any features contributor is having the ideas and creative imagination.

My experience of the Vogue Festival 2013 was a truly inspiring one. It made me realise that the fashion industry is actually a lot more welcoming than it may first appear. There really are many people within it who are willing to share their experiences to inspire and cultivate the next wave of potential industry contributors. When my day was over on Saturday, I only wishes that I had bought a ticket to come back for more on the Sunday! Next year I am most definitely going to purchase a weekend ticket, and I strongly advise that you do too!

April Wish List: Top Ten

For those of us living in the UK, March was a pretty chilly month, and if the weather reports are to be listened to, April isn't looking too promising either. As depressing as this may initially seem, I am inclined to use this unseasonal cold-snap to practice my styling for the colder seasons (although the high street is evidently trying to pretend that kinder weather is on the way, and Spring/Summer 2013 clothes are all that can be found in the shops!). I have chosen bright but layer-able clothes for this month's Wish List - such as the pink Topshop cami and the Next blue pac-a-mac - this way I can wear spring colours whilst protecting against the undesirable weather. I have also included Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau de Toilette to bring some Spring scents into my life! So, here's a look at my Top Ten for April:

1.

WHISTLES
blue wooster tote (in the sale!)
£90

2.

MARC JACOBS
daisy eau de toilette 50ml
£45

3.

NEXT
blue pac-a-mac
£28

4.

DAISY
aura chakra bracelet in 24c gold
£86

5.

TOPSHOP
pink strappy cami
£18

6.

TOPSHOP
love tube skirt
£22

7.

BURBERRY PRORSUM
metallic python bow belt in teal blue
£495

8.

CHANEL
le vernis nail colour in rose exuberant
£18

9.

ZARA
zebra pattern jacquard coat
£89.99

10.

TOPSHOP
soldier colour block platforms
£80

So, I know it's cold out there, but do try to layer up some colours to put some cheer into your days! I'm also going to make sure that I up my exercise and eat cleanly (especially after all those Easter eggs!), and I'm hoping these little things will make a big difference in my attitude towards this dreary weather.

What will you be wearing this April to cheer yourself up?

March Wish List: Top Ten

So, it's been a little while since I've posted. I've not forgotten about my beloved blog, I have just been ridiculously busy at work! As I work in events the nature of my job is that it comes and goes in waves; and unfortunately I nearly drowned in my wave on numerous occasions over the last few weeks! But thankfully I have finally found the time to write my latest post, and I must say I am rather excited about this one...

As you may have noticed from most of my posts, I often like to play it quite safe; but recent goings-on in the industry have inspired me to be a little more adventurous! The items I have chosen this month are all very "in vogue" with the current fashion fascination of luxe sportswear - inspired by the likes of Queen Delevingne (whose t-shirt I wanted to include in this post, but unsurprisingly they have all sold out, however it has been replaced with another amazing slogan tee saying "totes jel of my Chanel?" - if only I actually had a Chanel!). So without further ado, here are my top ten items for March:

1.

FRENCH SOLE
moochers in black dalmatian and ponyhair, with a glitter toe-cap, and neon green trim
£95

2.

ZARA
combination jacket with zips
£89.99

3.

RAG & BONE
The Grand Prix leather-paneled twill leggings-style jeans
£250

4.

THE CAMBRIDGE SATCHEL COMPANY
lilac metallic 13" satchel
£65

5.

TOPSHOP
side split tee maxi dress
£26

6.

CUTLER & GROSS
0734 fuchsia
£310

7.

BURBERRY PRORSUM
metallic leather trench in metal petrol blue
£2,995

8.

WHISTLES
croc makeup bag in black
£35

9.

BLACK SCORE
totes jel of my Chanel? tee
£40

10.

TOPSHOP
knitted fluro twist jumper
£38

My mood for March is definitely relaxed with a twist of fun. What with all the gloomy weather in London at the moment, we certainly need a few fun (and warm!) items to cheer us up!

What is on your March wish list?

We Need To Talk About Cara

Cara Delevingne. The name that has the fashion world buzzing with excitement. The expression-filled face that is everywhere. The personality that bubbles over with a youthful vigour. There are even whispers that she will be, or already is, "The New Kate Moss". And as her friend Rihanna would say This Girl Is On Fire. Fashion Fire.

Needless to say Miss Delevingne has had a fortunate upbringing. She, along with her elder sisters Chloe and Poppy, attended prestigious boarding schools, and are friends with many an influential person from royalty to rockstar offspring. Her father is a "property man", and the girls enjoyed a luxurious upbringing in Belgravia, London. Not only was she born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but she was also born with extraordinarily good genes and mile high legs!

But, to Cara's credit, where most people would rest on their diamond-crusted laurels, she's used her connections, good looks, and vivacious personality to her advantage, and has worked incredibly hard to prove herself in the ruthless world of fashion. She's fearless. And fashion loves fearless. She's not afraid to make a fool of herself, and I believe that's what makes her such a fantastic model with such a solid fan-base. Her Instagram is overflowing with goofy pictures which make you want to hang out with her, yet on the catwalk she transforms into a fierce creature who can carry any outfit.

She is even loved by Vogue - the ultimate seal of approval for any model wanting to make it. In the British February edition they released some incredible figures about her season - she walked in 38 shows, showcasing 54 different looks, spending an impressive four-and-a-half hours on the catwalk. No wonder she was named the British Fashion Council's Model of the Year.

She's become a regular in the Burberry campaigns and catwalk shows - some of my favourite "Cara" shoots - recently starring alongside Romeo Beckham. Take a peek at my favourite shot below, and also some of my other favourite "Cara" campaigns.

These three campaigns are impressive feats for a 20-year-old model. She's shown she's versatile and willing to put the hard-yards in. However, the best is yet to come. The cover of the Spring/Summer edition of LOVE magazine was leaked on Instagram, and, you've guessed it, it's a picture of Cara on the front. I think it's her best yet. What do you think?

The issue is out on 4th February in the UK, and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy to see the rest of the shoot.

So, Miss Delevingne is doing pretty well for her young years! It's not even surprising that "la cara" in Spanish translates to "face" - she really is the face of the moment.

Now all that's left to do is to wait and see how her career unfolds. What do you think Cara's future holds?

Chanel's Little Black Jacket Exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, London

Last Sunday I managed to make it to the last day of Karl Lagerfeld's and Carine Roitfeld's Little Black Jacket exhibition at the stunning Saatchi Gallery in London. I'd been wanting to go since it opened there on October 12th, but what with starting a new job, I simply didn't have the time. Those of you who have read my blog since the very beginning will know that one of my first posts celebrated Coco Chanel's little black dresses and Karl Lagerfeld's little black jacket, and that I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of the exhibition in London - and it even exceeded all expectations! You can read that post by clicking here: Coco & Karl.

The exhibition was a glorious collection of 113 photographs depicting friends of the fashion house wearing Lagerfeld's exquisite little black jacket. They were all striking, original and raw. The whole way round I couldn't help but say to my friend "I'm so happy we came, it's amazing!" - I think I repeated myself far too much, but I was just in awe of the images Lagerfeld has created! They are provocative and evocative in an understated way, and cleverly portray the personality of the models as well as the personality of Chanel. Modern and classic Chanel collides in a perfect way, creating timeless images which celebrate everything the fashion house is about. It is almost impossible to choose which ones were my favourites, but some of the most striking were the ones of Clémence Poésy, Elle Fanning, Anna Wintour, Natalia Vodianova, and Tilda Swinton.

Here are a couple more of my favourites (edited on my instagram: instagram.com/lucyvictoriajackson):

Vanessa Paradis

Georgia May Jagger

Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey

Unfortunately, the exhibition has now left London and the UK. However if you're in Sydney or Moscow you have until tomorrow to make it (11th November). If you're in Paris, I am extremely envious as it has only just opened there, and will run until 25th November. You're also in luck if you're from Seoul or Berlin as you have the opportunity to see the exhibition on 1st December and 23rd November respectively. You can find more information at thelittleblackjacket.chanel.com.

The Saatchi Gallery also deserves praise for hosting the London event in such fabulous fashion. The open space of the gallery was perfect, and complimented the exhibition perfectly. It was set out in such a way that visitors did not feel cramped (despite the large number of people visiting), so each individual could look at the photographs at their own pace, and without feeling rushed. What's more is that entry is free to all of their exhibitions, and at the Little Black Jacket each visitor was given 3 FREE poster! We were each given a large copy of the images of Georgia May Jagger, Lily Donaldson, and Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey, and I can safely say that come December they will all be framed and up on my bedroom walls! So if you're ever in London, or live in the UK, I would definitely advise seeing what the Saatchi Gallery has to offer, as it really is a wonderful gallery. Find out what's coming up at www.saatchi-gallery.co.uk.

If you've missed the exhibition, or have seen it and loved it, then the book of the Little Black Jacket is out now! It's certainly on my Christmas list!

Coco & Karl

Coco Chanel was the first woman who understood the true potential of the Little Black Dress.

She once said that: “Women think of all colours except the absence of colour. I have said that black has it all.” She would often be seen in her elegant uniform of a perfectly fitted LBD and a string of pearls. And fashion has never looked back. The LBD is now a wardrobe staple for every fashion conscious woman.

Her legacy has been continued by the controversial genius, Karl Lagerfeld. Whilst his collections often celebrate the LBD itself, the Little Black Jacket has also become synonymous with Chanel. Coco herself promoted the benefits of a fitted box jacket, however Lagerfeld has truly cemented the brand's love affair  with the LBJ. And like his predecessor, Karl takes his uniform of the LBJ very seriously; in fact I can't think of a single picture in which he is not wearing one himself.

The LBJ has become such a large part of Lagerfeld's legacy that he is releasing a book this Autumn entitled: The Little Black Jacket: Chanel's Classic Revisited, in which 109 celebrities model Lagerfeld's chic LBJ.

Furthermore, if you live in the UK, you still have the opportunity to see the exhibition of the photographs as it is arriving in London between 12th-28th of October. I'll definitely be taking a visit!

http://thelittleblackjacket.chanel.com

If only I could afford the jacket itself...
