Karlie Kloss for Nike

Last week supermodel Karlie Kloss was unveiled as the new face of the Nike Pro Bra Collection. As someone who regularly endorses exercise, healthy eating, and eating cookies (Karlie’s Kookies no less), this is a campaign that The Beautifully Healthy Project is rather excited about.

Vogue Australia has previously reported on Karlie’s relationship with exercise; she says: “Movement is everything. A body in motion stays in motion and I have a lot of body so I like to keep it moving.”

Yes Karlie is very slender and has previously been caught up in a little controversy for being “too thin”, however if her Instagram feed and pictures of her younger self are to go by then Karlie is simply one of those people who is blessed with the slim gene. Like fellow supermodels Kate Moss and Cara Delevinge she could have chosen to rest on her blessed genes by shunning exercise in favour of constant partying, questionable substance taking and smoking, however Karlie has chosen the Beautifully Healthy path of a life filled with exercise and nutritional food.

It is well reported that Karlie grew up doing ballet and has since thrown herself into the modelFIT exercise regime, and her lean but strong figure is a great fit for the Nike brand. In the campaign she looks strong but slender, powerful but feminine – something that is resonating with many other celebrities such as Millie Mackintosh who regularly uses the hastag #strongnotskinny. And indeed, although I shall never be anywhere near as lean as Karlie or Millie, the strong not skinny ethos is one that I aspire to. It is a healthy message which encourages women to focus on their health and fitness rather than their shape and size.

So here are some shots from Karlie’s Nike Pro Bra Collection campaign:

Karlie looks incredible in these photos (there are others in the campaign in which she looks equally as amazing), and I really do think they portray a woman who is naturally slender but also healthy – there are no protruding bones, but instead lean biceps and abs which represent Karlie’s hard work in the gym but also that she does actually eat.

So I hope this neat little campaign inspires you to be Beautifully Healthy and to embrace exercise and healthy eating as part of your day-to-day life. And of course, don’t forget the Kookies! – they are an essential part of Karlie’s lifestyle as she often takes them to shows and shoots. They are vegan and gluten-free, and I’ve heard they’re absolutely delicious and give you that little bit of extra energy. If you don’t believe me have a little look at what the Voguers have to say about them…

What do you think of Karlie’s new Nike campaign?

July Wish List: Top Ten

Summer feels like it could finally be here (fingers crossed!), and so I'm off to Cornwall for the weekend to dust off my very novice surfing skills. So for this month's Wish List I have gone for tie dye and metallics - a chic twist on 90s surf fashion that is incredibly now. These pieces could also work for the festival season, and will give you a grungy edge over all the flower power boho babes.

The silver Birkenstocks I already own and love - they are ridiculously comfortable, without being too clumpy, and the metallic leather jazzes up what could otherwise be rather plain shoes. Whistles have got it right once again with the gorgeous white sweater, and why not go all white by teaming the sweater with the Next shorts? So, without further ado, here are my top ten surf-inspired pieces for July:

1.

TOPSHOP
metallic pleat cami
£14

2.
WHISTLES
white libbi sculptured sweat
£85

3.

RIVER ISLAND
grey acid wash jeans
£35

4.

BIRKENSTOCK
classic silver
£46.95

5.

TOPSHOP
basic burnout tee
£16

6.

NEXT
white roll-up short
£18

7.

ESSIE
metallic blue rhapsody
£7.99

8.

CUTLER AND GROSS
0164 blue on black
£310

9.

RIVER ISLAND
black tie dye maxi dress
£28

10.
NIKE
rosherun black trainers
£70

So I hope that my July Wish List inspires you to get down to the beach and into the water this weekend too! I must say, London life has been getting the better of me recently, so I'm really looking forward to reaching the coast and getting in touch with my inner surfer girl!

What's on your July Wish List?

The Very Inspiring Blogger Award

The lovely blogger who nominated me said at the beginning of her post that she'd been nominated for this award, and had totally forgotten to post about it. This was quite a few weeks ago now, and ironically, although I haven't forgotten to post about the award, I have just been too busy at work to post about it! But I now have a few days off work, so I can finally catch up with myself!

The rules are as follows:

  1. Link back to your nominator
  2. Display the award logo
  3. Share 7 things about yourself
  4. Nomiate - and let them know

So, I would like to introduce the lovely Caroline of The Girl in the Yellow Dress blog. Caroline's blog gives a beautifully refreshing view on fashion and life - she loves to discover new things, and is incredibly supportive of others in the blogging community. 7 Things About Me:

  1. I work for a Non-Govermental Organisation called Street Child World Cup. To find out more visit: www.streetchildworldcup.org - this is a cause that I am truly passionate about, so I feel privileged to have such a job.
  2. I really love to ski, and am excited to be going back out to the Alps for the Easter Weekend.
  3. I've done Hatha yoga for a couple of years, but in April I'm trying out hot yoga (not Bikram, just yoga in a hot room I think!) - so I'll let you all know how that goes!
  4. I really need a new pair of running trainers... I would love a pair of these Nike IDs... store.nike.com
  5. I have recently discovered Label.m dry shampoo and I just love it! I really recommend it! thebeautybooth.com
  6. My favourite show at the February LFW has to be Burberry Prorsum - it was a beautiful collection, and I just loved Tom Odell's live performance of "Hold Me" (definitely the next big UK music star!)
  7. My next purchase will be the gorgeous new moochers by French Sole - they are just divine! www.frenchsole.com

Let's Get Physical

I like to workout. And as I said in my previous post I'm not just a January runner, I workout all year round. However that doesn't mean I don't struggle to motivate myself sometimes after a long hard day at work, when it's cold outside, or when I just feel too tired. I am considering changing my lifestyle to workout in the mornings, but it would take a while to train my body as I'm just not a morning person! One thing that may help motivate you (I know it does for me) is a new workout kit! Here are a few things on my list that I'd like to buy to help me want to get physical!

THE TRAINERS

ASICS
gel-enduro 8 w
£65

The most important thing when planning to workout is making sure that you have a comfortable and supportive pair of trainers. I often see people running in flat shoes, such as converses, but these are actually really bad for your posture and are definitely just meant to be "fashion" trainers. Choose trainers which have a well-structured shape, and if you're not sure then just ask the shop assistant.

THE JACKET

H&M
sports jacket
£34.99

It's pretty chilly in London at the moment, and I can't afford a gym pass, so I workout outside - this jacket would be perfect to keep me warm! I like the bright pink toggles and the metallic colour of this jacket - I may just have to take a trip to H&M!

THE LEGGINGS

SWEATY BETTY
10k run tight
£50

I like to workout in leggings rather than baggy pants, I'm not quite sure why, I just find them more comfortable! I like to wear black ones as black is more slimming, and these ones are super cute with the fluro pink stripe down the side.

THE BAG

AMERICAN APPAREL
shiny denim diagonal strap gym bag
£28

If I do manage to save up for a gym pass I'll need a new gym bag, and this one from American Apparel would do perfectly! Again I love the metallic material used for this bag, it's fun and chic, but not expensive - which is ideal for a bag that I'd be leaving in a gym locker for long periods of time.

THE T-SHIRT

NIKE
sweet tee 2.0
£30

The t-shirt would be great to workout in. I like the deep purple colour, and the stripes make it a less obvious workout tee. Also because it's dark it'll hide any sweat patches!

THE WATER BOTTLE

SWEATY BETTY
large sb water bottle
£5

When taking part in any exercise it's vital that you stay hydrated. It'll improve your performance, but it'll also prevent you from feeling dizzy or weak during or after exercise. So why not hold your fluids in this cute pink water bottle from Sweaty Betty?

THE ENTERTAINMENT

APPLE
purple ipod shuffle
£40

At the beginning of this post I spoke about motivation, and what better way to motivate yourself than listening to some upbeat tunes? When I listen to music I definitely feel like the workout goes more quickly. I got this iPod shuffle for Christmas from my pops (with Lucy Victoria engraved on the back) and I've used it loads already! It's discreet and clips onto your clothing easily, and because it's not too expensive I don't feel nervous about taking it running with me.

THE TUNE

SWEDISH MAFIA FT. JOHN MARTIN (ORIGINAL MIX)
taken from ravingmaster youtube channel

I know this tune has been out for a few months, but I just love listening to it when I workout - it's upbeat (especially at the beginning) and really gets me in the mood to run!

I hope I have helped you gather some motivation to get out there and do some exercise. Even if you start with just walking it's really important to just get moving! As you'll probably know exercise release endorphins and endorphins make you happy! If you don't believe me, why not try it?
